A comparative study of alternative auxiliary heating for sanitary hot water in hotel buildings with chilled water plant is presented. Thermodynamics assessment and life cycle cost are the tools for selecting the most economical option and reduced environmental impact. Three alternatives are evaluated for auxiliary heating: electric, gas and solar collectors heaters. The obteined results showed that the system with solar auxiliary heater even are the best option in energetic and environmental terms, the high investment cost and payback period do not confirm as an attractive option. The lower life cycle cost is achieved with gas heater that although most contributes to the environmental impact by way CO2 emissions, there is no doubt it is the most feasible alternative from an economic and operation point of wiew during its lifetime.
