Introduction:
an infection constitutes the proliferation of enough bacteria in different tissues. Surgical site infections are those that originate as a result of a surgical act.
Objective:
to characterize patients with infection of the surgical site.
Methods:

Results:
the mean age was (55.96) and the female sex represented (54.5%). The contaminated clean surgical wound and the superficial surgical site infection were the most represented (44.2% and 57% respectively). A considerable group of patients were readmitted due to a surgical site infection (41.3%). Most organ and space infections were preceded by dirty surgical wounds. The largest number of surgical site infections occurred in the third quarter of the year.
Conclusions:
patients between 30 and 60 years old, female, clean contaminated surgical wound, and superficial surgical site infection were the most represented. A considerable group of patients were readmitted for a surgical site infection. Most organ and space infections were preceded by dirty surgical wounds. The largest number of surgical site infections occurred in the third quarter of the year.
