Introduction: the present paper was written to commemorate the 120th anniversary of the birth of Dr. Luis Hevia Díaz, teacher and pioneering exponent of modern Cuban anesthesiology. Objective: update information about the life and work of Dr. Luis Hevia Díaz. Results: a brief account is provided of Dr. Hevia's years as a bright university student, his contributions to anesthesiology in our country, and his work as researcher and scientific communicator. Conclusions: a biographical sketch of Dr. Luis Hevia Díaz is made available to anesthesiologists for their consideration. Dr. Hevia was the founding president of the Cuban Society of Anesthesiology.
