Resumen

ROSELLO FINA, Jorge Rafael et al. Uso de Bioprótesis en las hernias inguinocrurales complicadas. Rev Cubana Cir [online]. 2003, vol.42, n.2, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-2945.

A revolutions has been taking place in inguinal hernia surgery characterized by the increasing use of bioprothesis in its treatment since 1986. Among the surgeons, it is a myth not to use this type of repair in complicated inguinal hernia (incarcerated, stuck or strangulated). Those cases operated on due to this cause that underwent prosthetic hernioplasty were analyzed in order to review this concept. In a total of 18 cases with complicated hernias, 2 of them reproduced and 2 crural, with an average follow-up of 14 months (range 7-18 months), there was only a minor wound complication (seroma) and no wound sepsis or herniary relapse were observed. In 3 patients of our series, it was necessary to perform resection of the epiplon necrosated and strangulated in the herniary sac, in a woman with crural hernia, with a necrosated Ritcher's hernia, where it was necessary the resection and anastomosis without complications. Wide spectrum antibiotic therapy was used in all cases. A review of the medical literaturre was made that allowed us to conclude that the complicated inguinocrural hernia is not a contraindication for prosthetic repair
