Introduction:

Inguinal hernia has been one of the most controversial surgical diseases throughout history. There are several classifications and countless techniques for inguinal hernia repair.

Objective:

To show the outcomes of laparoscopic surgical treatment of inguinal hernia at the National Center for Minimal Access Surgery.

Methods:

A retrospective and descriptive study was carried out of 737 patients with a diagnosis of inguinal hernia operated on by laparoscopic surgery, in the period from January 2011 to December 2018, at the National Center for Minimal Access Surgery.

Results:

The effectiveness of laparoscopic techniques was shown, with a low recurrence rate of 1.4% and a low conversion rate of 0.5%, while inguinodynia appeared in five patients, accounting for 0.5%, and postoperative seroma was a predominating complication.

Conclusions:

Laparoscopic surgery is a safe and effective treatment option for in inguinal hernia.
