Resumen

CHIN WONG, Jorge Luis; ORDEMAR VASQUEZ, Percy; MONGE MOYANO, Aníbal  y  MORENO MANTILLA, Mario. Effect of Uncaria tomentosa in the mutagenesis of Salmonella typhimurium induced by 7,12 dimethylbenzanthrancene with metabolic activation in vitro. Rev Cubana Plant Med [online]. 2008, vol.13, n.2, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1028-4796.

Objective: to verify the anitmutagenic properties of Uncaria tomentosa (Willd. ex Roem. & Schult.) DC. in a model of modified Ames' test. Methods: a prospective experimental study was conducted by using an auxotrophic strain of Salmonella typhimurium TA-102 his(-) in 2 groups, one control and one experimental; the latter was divided into 4 subgroups treated with increasing doses of U. tomentosa. Mutagenesis was induced in both groups with 7,12 dimethylbenzanthracene in a system of metabolic activation with freeze-dried of liver microsomes. To establish the statistical significance, the Student's t test was used. Results: it was observed a reversal of colonies inversely proportional to the dose of freeze-dried of U. tomentosa; the average count was 333 ± 14 colonies/plaque for the dose of 750 mg, whereas for the control group it was 606 ± 21 colonies/plaque with a statistically significant difference (p< 0,05). Conclusions: U. tomentosa has antimutagenic properties in this experimental model.
