A descriptive and cross-sectional study of 790 patients with accidental burnings assisted in the Caumatology Service of "Orlando Pantoja Tamayo" Teaching General Hospital in Contramaestre municipality was carried out, in Santiago de Cuba in 2008. Among the main results standed out by their primacy: female sex, urban origin and the age group from 15 to 25 years. The students were the most affected and the predominant causal factors were the scalding fluids burns followed by the hot metal burns and brush burns. It was recommended to design individual, familiar and communitary strategies to decrease the occurrence of these accidents.
