A descriptive, retrospective and cross sectional study of 18 patients (23 eyes) from 0-15 years with cataract, assisted in the Ophthalmology Service of the Southern Teaching Pediatric Hospital in Santiago de Cuba was carried out during 2011, in order to characterize the cataract operated pediatric population. The 5-9 years males (53.8%) and the congenital cataract (60.9%) prevailed in the case material. Among the most frequent complications there were: opacity of the posterior capsule, pupillary ectopia and uveitis. Most of those affected achieved a vision higher than 0.5 corrected with glasses, with a high percentage of implanted intraocular lens, which guaranteed the good visual prognosis with improvement in their life quality, and their incorporation to society in an active way
