An exhaustive literature survey on retinal detachment was carried out, with the aim of offering updated information on the main causal elements and its pathophysiology, related directly with ist anatomy and cytoarchitecture. Likewise, clinical aspects of this disorder and its risk factors are dealt, all of which can be consulted by students and professionals of medicine, for carrying out prevention actions of, an opportune diagnosis and adequate treatment to the patients, in such way that complications can be avoided
