Introduction:
knowledge, attitudes and practice on oral health in the child population play a fundamental role in increasing oral health and its impact on the general health of children.
Objective:
to identify the knowledge, attitudes and practices of oral health in fourth grade children of the Héroes de Yaguajay elementary school.
Methods:
a cross-sectional descriptive observational study was carried out from January to June 2021, with a universe of 59 fourth-grade children from the Héroes de Yaguajay elementary school, no sample selection was made. The variables were studied: general knowledge about oral health (sufficient, average, insufficient), attitudes about oral health (favorable, unfavorable) and oral health practices (sufficient, average, insufficient). Methods of the theoretical level (historical-logical, analytical-synthetic, inductive-deductive and the systemic approach), empirical (survey, structured interview) and statistical-mathematical were used.
Results:
45,8 % of the children presented an insufficient level of knowledge of oral health, only 13,5 % had sufficient knowledge. 66,1 % with unfavorable attitudes and 47,4 % with insufficient practices.
Conclusions:
the deficient knowledge and practices, unfavorable attitudes about oral health of the schoolchildren were verified, for which the need to apply an Educational Program of Oral Health in the fourth-grade schoolchildren of the Héroe de Yaguajay elementary school, in the area of school.
