Introduction:
people over 60 years of age show an increased risk of premalignant lesions and oral cancer.
Objective:
to determine oral lesions and risk factors present in gerontes attended at the Stomatology office of the Hermanos Martínez Tamayo Teaching Polyclinic, Baracoa municipality, Guantánamo, in the period September 2022- March 2023.
Methods:
an observational, descriptive, cross-sectional, cross-sectional study was carried out in older adults seen in the stomatology office of the "Hermanos Martínez Tamayo" Teaching Polyclinic, Baracoa municipality, Guantánamo, in the period September 2022- March 2023. For the collection of information, a survey designed to identify risk factors was applied, in addition to the examination of the oral cavity to identify the main lesions and their location. Percentage was used as a summary measure.
Results:
male sex predominated (56,3 %), maladjusted prosthesis (86,3 %) was the predominant risk factor, being more frequent in the male sex (51,3 %), Subprosthetic Stomatitis (71,2 %) predominated in relation to the other lesions of the oral mucosa. The area of the buccal topography most affected was the hard palate with 71,3 %.
Conclusions:
In the older adults studied, maladjusted prosthesis was predominant in relation to the other risk factors analyzed, as a lesion of the oral cavity, subprosthetic stomatitis provided the most significant data and the hard palate was the topographic region of the oral cavity most affected.
