Introduction:

the education of women in the puerperium is a priority, since it helps to reduce the complications that may appear during this period.

Objective:

to determine the level of knowledge about puerperal self-care in the physiological puerperium services of the Abel Santamaría Hospital in Pinar del Río, from October 2020 to December 2021.

Method:

an observational, descriptive and cross-sectional study was carried out, with a universe of 86 puerperal women. and a sample of 50 postpartum women who met the inclusion criteria.

Results:

the age of 18 years, the average level of education, primiparous women and married women are the most evident demographic aspects. The areas of knowledge about breastfeeding, care with raffia and vitamin therapy were evaluated with a high level of information. Knowledge about warning signs, emotional changes and family cooperation is low and the rest is of medium prevalence.

Conclusion:

the relationship of the areas of knowledge studied according to their demographic aspects allowed a diagnosis to be made to focus on education for the health of puerperal women grouped by learning needs in search of raising knowledge about the pillars of education contributing to the sustainable development of Maternal health potentiated from puerperal self-care.
