oral diseases are present in nine out of 10 people worldwide and these pathologies include dental caries up to oral cancer.

Objective:

to determine the influence that the class schedule has on oral hygiene habits in dental students of the Universidad Regional Autónoma de los Andes in the period 2022 -2023.

Methods:

an observational, descriptive and cross-sectional research was carried out on the students of the aforementioned institution. The universe was constituted by 82 first year dental students, the sample was randomly selected and consisted of 74 students who were assigned to two groups (A and B), descriptive statistics were used.

Results:

the class schedule does affect the use of mouthwash in dental students, (group A, 31 %; group B, 55 %), students who brush their teeth more than three times a day (28,8 %), those who use dental floss (12,9 %), those who visit the dentist for a regular check-up (41,3 %), mouthwash one or more times a day and brush their teeth three minutes or more, have 4.65 and 7,01 respectively times more chances of having good oral health.

Conclusions:

the class schedule does affect the use of mouthwash in dental students, favoring those in the afternoon schedule over those in the morning.
