Introduction:

teenage pregnancy is considered a social phenomenon that must be addressed by all agents and agencies involved in the comprehensive training and education of adolescents.

Objective:

to characterize the population of pregnant adolescents in the Pinar del Río municipality.

Methods:

an observational, descriptive and retrospective study was carried out in a period from September 2019 to July 2023 in the Pinar del Río municipality, Pinar del Río province. From a total of 339 pregnant adolescents from the Special, Basic Secondary, Pre-University and Technical and Professional Education levels, a sample of 66 pregnant adolescents from the Pinar del Río municipality was selected through intentional sampling. The dialectical materialist, statistical, qualitative and comparative methods were used.

Results:

50 % of pregnant adolescents correspond to the Pre-University educational level, the school years with the highest absolute numbers are 2020-2021 and 2021-2022. 59,1 % of all pregnant adolescents have inadequate knowledge about comprehensive sexual education. 48,5 % have inadequate knowledge about contraceptive methods. In relation to the consequences of pregnancy in this age period, 45,4 % of the sample has inadequate communication with their parents and 63,6 % of grandparents take care of the babies of pregnant adolescents. Conclusions: the lack of education and communication about responsible sexuality from the earliest ages leads to pregnancy in adolescence.
