PEREZ ORTIZ, Letier y MADRIGAL LOMBA, Ramón. The cholera in Cuba. Historical notes. Rev. Med. Electrón. [online]. 2010, vol.32, suppl.7, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1684-1824.
The cholera is an infectious and extremely contagious disease. The first epidemic irruption in Cuba happened in 1833, and caused more than 30 000 deceases, the second one, in March 1850; and the third, in October 1867. This work deals with the course of the disease, the ravages it produced and the contributions of physicians and scientific to this theme, bringing nothing new to the existent historical and bibliographic works, but remembering what the citizens of the Island suffered in the XIX century as a result of this disease, and also the magnitude of the epidemics, propitiating the reorganization of the colonial public health and highlighting the job of the physicians to control and avoid the disease spreading.
