GARZON MORALES, Georgina; REYES MEDIACEJA, Reinaldo; VAILLANT RODRIGUEZ, Maribel  y  BENITEZ JIMENEZ, Iliana. Road accidents in Havana 2015-2020: consequences and sociodemographic characteristics. Rev Nov Pob [online]. 2023, vol.19, n.37, pp. 377-394.  Epub 15-Jun-2023. ISSN 1817-4078.

Primary Health Care (PHC) in Cuba has among its main objectives the control of communicable diseases to which, among others, the Comprehensive Program for Care and Control of Acute Respiratory Infections (IRA) contributes. Within the group of ARIs, there are Influenza and Pneumonia, which generate an important health problem due to the impressive morbidity figures and high mortality rates that they cause. The work had as objective: to identify some factors related to mortality from Influenza and Pneumonia in the Contramaestre municipality of Santiago de Cuba. For this, an observational, mixed, although predominantly descriptive, and cross-sectional study was carried out. The studyuniverse consisted of the 209 deceased with Influenza or Pneumonia as the cause of death. Data were processed by a computerized system using rate and percentage as summary measures. It was found that the highest number of deaths was in those over 80 years of age, male, with completed secondary school, with addictions and came from areas at risk of environmental contamination; There was a high percentage of deaths that occurred outside of health institutions. These factors associated with mortality from Influenza and Pneumonia in the studied territory demand differentiated attention to the population exposed to risks. The implementation of a comprehensive treatment of risk situations from PHC in said territory with a view to preventing the disease, especially at advanced ages, more susceptible to death, was recommended.

Palabras clave : Primary Health Care; acute respiratory infections; mortality; risks.
