Resumen

LODOS FERNANDEZ, Jorge Tomás  y  CABALLERO NUNEZ, Arodis. Creation, Results and Disappearance of ICINAZ (1973-2011). Anales de la ACC [online]. 2022, vol.12, n.3  Epub 01-Nov-2022. ISSN 2304-0106.

Since 1963, research Institutes for sugarcane and byproducts existed, but not for sugar industry, no matter its importance. The analysis of the 1970 harvest led to the creation, in 1973, of the Cuban Sugar Research Institute (ICINAZ) with Experimental Sugar Mill Pablo Noriega (UEPN) attached, first Research-Production Integrated Unit, with directly generalized results. New equipment, technologies, and products developed by ICINAZ also transformed UEPN into the best sugar mill in Cuba. Issues as the separate management of UEPN and ICINAZ, the subtraction of UEPN from production control, and the attraction of technicians to ICINAZ had been resolved. During the years 2000, when “special time” appeared, the reduction of the sugar sector took place, UEPN was transferred to production control, and ICINAZ was relocated at IPROYAZ. In 2010, ICINAZ became part of ICIDCA, thus disappearing as an independent institute. Direct participants assumed the task of recovering this part of Cuban sugar history.
