Introduction:

the disease caused by the new coronavirus 2019 in children does not present, globally, a high casuistry and is characterized by a wide clinical spectrum, according to data provided by studies carried out in China and other countries, which reflect that the evolution of the disease is less severe in infants.

Objective:

to describe the epidemiological aspects of COVID-19 in the pediatric population treated.

Methods:

a cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out in children diagnosed with COVID-19 from March to October 2020 belonging to Villa Clara Province; a total of 43 children were selected by non-probabilistic sampling.

Results:

a total of 43 children were affected, predominantly the age group over 15 years old, male sex and white race (95%), in relation to personal pathological antecedents 98% were healthy, most of them were direct contacts of positive cases, acquired from relatives, and an incubation period of one to 14 days was observed.

Conclusions:

the most affected age group were those older than 15 years and predominantly male and white race, related to personal pathological history most were healthy, most were direct contacts of positive cases, acquired from relatives, and an incubation period of one to 14 days was observed.
