ALFONSO, Daniel et al. Situation of subclinical mastitis and evaluation of the dairy processes in farms of Villa Clara province, Cuba. Rev Salud Anim. [online]. 2017, vol.39, n.3, pp. 00-00. ISSN 2224-4700.

Mastitis is the most economically and productively important disease in the bovine milk production chain. The objective of the present study was to know the current situation of bovine mastitis and to evaluate the dairy processes in Villa Clara province. Twelve herds in three regions of the province were included. The bacteriological isolation and the California Mastitis Test (CMT) from milk of individual quarters were performed. Of the 1992 analyzed quarters of 498 animals, 47,3 % were affected by subclinical mastitis and 3,1 % were atrophied. The main bacteriological isolates of subclinical mastitis were Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus agalactiae, Streptococcus spp., and Staphylococcus Coagulase Negative, with a prevalence of 25, 16, 13 and 12 %, respectively. A qualitative and quantitative assessment of the milk harvesting processes was obtained by applying an evaluation model, identifying that the non-conformities, in relation to the sanitary standards in milk, were located mainly in the milking and hygiene processes in the room and milking equipment. Hence, the evaluations of the compliance status of the milk harvesting processes did not exceed 50 % of the total score. In the analysis by regions within the province, it was observed that a better compliance with the milking and hygiene processes in the room and equipment would determine a lower prevalence of subclinical mastitis and some etiological agents important for the disease
