VIDAL AGUIAR, Yamile. Nitric oxide and its role in plant responses to water stress. cultrop [online]. 2015, vol.36, suppl.1, pp. 51-58. ISSN 1819-4087.

Water deficit is currently the abiotic stress with highest incidence on growth and crop productivity. Numerous reports affirm that nitric oxide (NO) is a signaling molecule involved in mechanisms of response to this stress condition. Through the application of NO donor compounds have been obtained experimental evidence in support these functions for NO, but it´s little known about the natural production of NO in response to drought stress and its implication for the plant. Likewise, the mechanism by which this molecule exerts its effects and the molecular targets of NO in plants under water stress have not yet been described. Additionally various data indicate that stomatal closure is effected through intracellular signaling in which NO is a component too. Thus, these data suggest an emerging model of drought stress response in which NO has been included
