CARRAZANA PEREZ, Yoandre Michel et al. Use of CO2 laser in patients with dermatochalasis. Rev Cubana Oftalmol [online]. 2012, vol.25, n.2, pp. 226-232. ISSN 0864-2176.
Objective: to describe the results of surgical treatment with CO2 laser dermatochalasis. Methods: a prospective, longitudinal and descriptive study of 54 patients, who were treated at the Oculoplasty service from January to November 2007, was carried out. The following variables were used: age, sex, race, location and surgical outcome. Results: females accounted for 72.2 % of patients whereas 60-69 age group represented 44.4% of the total number. Caucasians were predominant in 72.2 % of patients; dermatochalasis was diagnosed in the upper eyelids of 70.4% of cases whereas skin excision plus selective myectomy were performed in 44.4% of them. The postsurgical complications were observed in 4.6% of the group, 60% of them corresponded to suture dehiscence. Conclusions: the 60-69 y age group, the females and the Caucasians prevailed. The upper eyelid was the most affected, the most used surgical technique was the skin removal plus selective myectomy. The most frequent complication was suture dehiscence; however, it was generally minimal, thus assuring the validity of the method.
