OLIVARES LOUHAU, Ela Maritza et al. Quality of the hospital care to children with lesions due to burns. MEDISAN [online]. 2011, vol.15, n.4, pp. 454-461. ISSN 1029-3019.
A descriptive and cross sectional study of 853 patients under 15 years with injuries due to burns who were discharged from "Dr. Juan de la Cruz Martínez Maceira" Northern Children Hospital in Santiago de Cuba during the period from January, 1997 to December, 2008 was carried out, in order to evaluate the quality of care given to these patients in the institution; for this the lethality rates were taken as health indicators and they were compared to the expected ones according to the Cuban Life Prognosis Classification. The interesting data were obtained from the medical records, the Statistics Department of the institution, and the open surveys filled by relatives to specify their satisfaction when discharging the patients. Those admitted with diagnosis of mild, less severe and very severe burns were discharged alive; but not a 60 % of those included in the category of extremely critical burns. Factors that influenced in these results were analyzed and it was concluded that the structural problems and of resources are minimized when hearts and iron willingness of men are devoted to the good practical work.
