IGLESIAS-DIAZ, Gladys et al. Pedagogical current events of the teaching-learning process in relation to elective general neck surgery. Rev Ciencias Médicas [online]. 2022, vol.26, n.2 Epub 01-Mar-2022. ISSN 1561-3194.
Introduction:
within the framework of its relationship with scientific-technical development, the training of specialists strengthens the University-Society connection, based on the identification of problems and the search for technological solutions that should solve them.
Objective:
to characterize the teaching-learning process in relation to elective general neck surgery in surgical affections of the thyroid gland, at León Cuervo Rubio Provincial Clinical Surgical Teaching Hospital in the period 2019-2020.
Methods:
descriptive cross-sectional study between December 2019 and February 2020. Theoretical and empirical methods such as the historical-logical, systemic-structural, documentary review, surveys and interview, respectively, were used. In addition, descriptive and inferential statistical methods were used in a target group of professors of surgery (N=34). The sample includes 20 professors and 8 surgery residents once the inclusion criteria were applied. The variable studied was the teaching-learning process of elective general neck surgery in surgical conditions of the thyroid gland.
Results:
insufficiencies were found in the mastery of the historical content necessary for the determination of the essentials of practical theoretical knowledge; in addition to limited use of teaching aids for the development of autonomous learning, as well as weaknesses in the training of professors to implement updated and contextualized learning resources to transform this reality.
Conclusions:
the characterized teaching-learning process has limitations to integrate contents through essential aspects of practical theoretical knowledge, which hinders the autonomous learning of the resident and consequently the efficient performance in the professional activity.
