GEORGE QUINTERO, Ramón Sergio et al. Cerebrovascular disease and aging, a problem to be considered. Infodir [online]. 2021, n.36 Epub 04-Abr-2022. ISSN 1996-3521.
Introduction:
Cerebrovascular disease seriously compromises the performance of activities of daily living. It represents a daily, medical, social and economic problem, an enormous burden for the patient, the family, as well as for society. It generates high costs for the public health of any state or country and forces to take rational behaviors to improve the health condition of the population.
Objective:
To characterize significant aspects of cerebrovascular disease related to aging with a view to decision making.
Development:
The search for information was carried out in a basic and advanced way in publications of indexed journals, in addition to EBSCO Hots, Pubmed and SciELO databases in English and Spanish. The search term used was: cerebrovascular disease, rnaging, cost per disease and decision making.
Conclusions:
Most cases of the disease occur as age increases, with displacement to earlier ages of life, and it is highly generative of disability, both physical and cognitive, and long-term care. It is necessary to be able to design an adequate policy in the distribution of resources and to compare the cost relation according to results with respect to the different protocols, therapeutic diagnoses, prevention, among others. It highlights the need for information on the costs associated with the disease and health technologies, with the aim of providing scientific evidence for decision making.
