The article analyzes the commercial development of the Asturians established in Cienfuegos, which has its origins in about 1850, governed by the large polyvalent commercial bourgeoisie, where the large importing and exporting commercial firms acting as intermediaries of foreign trade are imposed, exercising banker-refactionist functions and also acting as insurance agents and vessel consignees. Between 1900 and 1925, the mercantile companies with Asturian participation established in the Cienfuegos region will have a strong weight in society, in fact they figure among the most important from the point of view of the capital they manage, at least until 1925, from that date the large mercantile firms with Asturian participation will decline giving way to new firms with US or Cuban capital, while the Asturian group will be limited in its participation to commercial companies dedicated to small and medium industry and commerce retail.
