CHOQUE-QUISPE, David et al. Caffeine and UV-Vis scanning and the water quality index in the high-Andean watershed of the Chumbao River, Andahuaylas, Apurímac, Perú. RTQ [online]. 2019, vol.39, n.3, pp. 619-637. ISSN 2224-6185.
The Surface of water sources are resources for socioeconomic activities, however these cause alteration and deterioration, this impact is measured by the water quality index (IQA) and recently by emerging pollutants. The objective was to evaluate the level of caffeine and IQA, in the high Andean watershed of the Chumbao River, located between 73 ° 38 '- 73 ° 11'O and 13 ° 49' - 13 ° 34'S, from 4 800 to 2 000 meters above sea level and area 767.4 km2. The IQA was evaluated in accordance with the NSF and Dinius, considering parameters: Oxygen level (OD and BOD5), Level of eutrophication (NO3- and PO4-), Physical characteristics (Temperature, Turbidity, Color and TDS), Dissolved substances (Alkalinity, Hardness, pH, Conductivity and Chlorides), Health aspects (E. Coli and Coliforms); the caffeine HPLC was determined; the sampling was in season of avenues, in 02 lentic points and 08 lotic. It was found that the predominant use of water is for agriculture, pasture and urbanization; the watershed presents slopes of 5.4% (18.3 km), 2.2% (11.8 km) and 4.3% (5.6 km), the parameters show positive correlation Rs (p-value <0, 05), exceeding the quality standards for aquatic life in urbanized points. No caffeine levels were detected (n.d.> 1.09 μg / L). The IQA NSF and Dinius show two categories Good and Very bad for lotic points; and excellent for the lagoons of the basin head, these characteristics were evidenced by a UV-Vis sweep of 200 to 700 nm.
