ROJAS-MARIN, María Zoraida; VARGAS-ESCOBAR, Lina María; GARCIA CORREAL, Gina Paola  e  VILLAMIL ESPINOSA, Shannien Nathalie. Evaluation of the virtual kiosk device prototype for inquiries about sexual and reproductive health topics in a university population. Rev. cuba. inf. cienc. salud [online]. 2019, vol.30, n.2  Epub 01-Jun-2019. ISSN 2307-2113.

Objective:

Evaluate the pedagogical usefulness (acceptability, accessibility and satisfaction) of the module prototype "kiosk for inquiries about sexual and reproductive health topics".

Methods:

A quantitative cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted in two stages during the months of July 2012 and March 2015. The first stage consisted of the implementation of the kiosk prototype, whereas the second evaluated its pedagogical usefulness. A nonprobability convenience sample was used. A total 126 undergraduate students from a university in Bogotá, Colombia, participated in the study (30 in stage 1 and 96 in stage 2).

Results:

Integrated, collaborative actions were performed in joint coordination with various schools from the university. These included module design, testing of a hardware battery, virtual environment, and sexual and reproductive health contents intended for adolescents and young university students. 639 consultations were conducted in ten months, mainly on the topics of the body and sexuality, and fertility control. With respect to the usefulness of the prototype, participants evaluated the experience as easy, comfortable, fast, didactic and personalized. The variables accessibility, visibility elements (83.3 %) and easy access (92.8 %) obtained evaluations ranging from in agreement to very much in agreement among participants. Contents were generally considered to be appropriate (94.8 %) and contribute new knowledge (85.4 %), whereas 41.7 % of participants referred negatively to environmental conditions affecting the consultation, such as noise, poor lighting and the wind.

Conclusion:

The virtual kiosk prototype is effective for inquiries about sexual and reproductive health topics by young university students.
