ESPINDOLA ARTOLA, Arnaldo; GARCIA GONZALEZ, Mercedes Caridad; GARLOBO FIGUEREDO, Maritza e QUINTERO PUPO, Gerardo. Models and mechanisms that govern the university-company link in Latin American countries. trf [online]. 2022, vol.18, n.3, pp. 644-673. Epub 01-Set-2022. ISSN 2077-2955.
Objective:
To systematize the main models and mechanisms that governs the university-company links in Latin American countries.
Method:
A bibliographic review study was carried out, in which the contents of 51 documents meeting previously established selection criteria were analysed, using theoretical and empirical research methods.
Result:
The main finding was to figure out that the main models governing the university- company links in this region are: The Sábato’s triangle model; innovation systems; and version III of the triple helix. Among the most frequently used mechanisms the followings stand out: internships or student practices, diploma courses, professional and organizational assistance provided by universities. Also, efforts have been promoted in the establishment of entrepreneurship units and incubators of science and technology-based companies. Currently, there is a commitment to greater investment in the creation of spin-offs, spin-outs and start-ups, and investments in science and technology parks stand out.
Conclusion:
It is evident that the application of these models and mechanisms still has limitations in the Latin American context, since they are framed in a region with industrial underdevelopment and a predominantly neoliberal economic policy, where the increase in research and innovation activities is sought, solely for financial purposes.
