ARIAS RAMIREZ, Rafael; SANCHEZ HERNANDEZ, Leonardo  e  AGUERO RODRIGUEZ, Oscar. Impact of Education on Poverty in Planning Regions of Costa Rica . Estudios del Desarrollo Social [online]. 2018, vol.6, n.1, pp. 1-21. ISSN 2308-0132.

This article explains the regional differences in household poverty through the decomposition between two variables, human capital formation and the place (geographical region) where people live; this being the first study that is carried out of this type in Costa Rica. Estimates by Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) and the Oaxaca-Blinder Decomposition Method, correcting the selection bias by the method proposed by Heckman (1979), are used to examine the impact that the levels of educational formation and the region where we live have of the incidence of poverty. To do this, data from the Population and Housing Censuses for 2011 are used for the 7 planning regions of the country.

Palavras-chave : education; poverty; region; productive transformation; productive specialization; territory.
