This article addresses a reflection on the categories of Development, Sustainability and Popular Environmental Education; establishes its conceptual links and shows examples of the incidence of popular environmental education in Cuban environmental policy, as well as the contributions of a political and pedagogical nature of this educational concept for Sustainable Development. It is a topic of current relevance that allows the Latin American and Caribbean environmental reality to be discussed from a critical perspective that faces challenges before the construction of educational bases for sustainable development, in favor of paradigms and against hegemonic systems of domination that prevail in modern society.
