Introduction:

The realization of bibliometric studies on neurosciences in Cuba has not been prolific.

Objective:

To describe the neuroscientific production in Cuban student scientific journals.

Methods:

A descriptive and cross-sectional study was carried out with 71 articles, published between January 2019 and December 2021. A descriptive statistical analysis was conducted.

Results:

Progaleno reached the highest number of readings; meanwhile, Universidad Médica Pinareña was the leader in terms of number of articles, citations, corrected citations and mean time of publication. HolCien had the highest average age of articles. INMEDSUR had the lowest average acceptance time and the highest Price index. UNIMED had the highest average number of references and updated references. Universidad Médica Pinareña and 2 de Diciembre had the highest index of scientific originality: 0.6. Original articles predominated. The most frequent number of authors was 3 (26.8 %), and the average value was 3.5±1.6. The collaboration index was 0.89. All the articles were published in Spanish. Among those of foreign origin, Spain appeared as the most frequent country. The year 2021 marked the appearance of 48 % of the articles.

Conclusions:

The neuroscientific production in Cuban student journals has been remarkable and is on the rise, but its visibility and citation still need to be improved.
