Introduction:
the use of virtual environments and online learning platforms have become a global trend for the development of academic processes
Objective:
to show the results obtained with the use of mobile telephony and the WhatsApp platform as a complement to face-to-face teaching, for collaborative learning in medical students.
Methods:
participatory action research adapted to educational practices during the 2022 academic year. The WhatsApp application was used as a platform and its chat. 12 6th year medical students participating in their internal medicine rotation and three teachers participated.
Results:
the knowledge of the virtual environment was deepened, synchronous and asynchronous communications were used through communication chats between the actors of the process and the information sharing functions, emojis and others, managing to stimulate collaborative learning through dynamic forms of communicative interaction in the construction of your own knowledge. The opinions and satisfaction with the use of the platform were mostly positive with some dissatisfaction.
Conclusions:
the use of mobile phones and WhatsApp as a tool for collaborative learning reinforced mutual cooperation between participants, demanded greater empathy and creativity from the teacher and demonstrated that communication technologies are becoming increasingly indispensable and mandatory knowledge. among the personal components of the educational teaching process.
