Epilepsy is a chronic brain disorder characterized by repeated attacks or seizures. Some of the most important drugs used for this kind of disease are phenytoin and valproic acid, however these drugs have side effects to the patient when administered orally or intravenously. Nowadays a current trend is to supply it to the patient through controlled release systems. This paper aims to propose an effective method to synthesize nanostructured materials loaded with drugs utilizing an inert carrier matrix obtained by the sol-gel method with different ratios of alkoxide:water. The matrices were characterize by infrared spectroscopy techniques and Fourier transform, scanning electron microscopy, adsorption isotherm and X-ray diffraction. It was found that the nanostructured materials can be used for implants because of their high compatibility.
