FLORES, Socorro Moyado. Conditional Cash Transfers - PROSPERA and the Cycle of Generational Poverty. Estudios del Desarrollo Social [online]. 2020, vol.8, n.1 Epub 14-Abr-2020. ISSN 2308-0132.
This paper is aimed at examining conceptual and operational changes in and outcomes of conditional cash transfers under the anti-poverty program PROSPERA from 2012 to 2018. Qualitative and descriptive research methods were used and an informed analysis was performed in order to answer the following questions: How does PROSPERA differ from previous anti-poverty programs? How does this program contribute to the reduction of extreme poverty in Mexico? How does it help break the cycle of generational poverty? One can conclude that in spite of the fact that the program includes acquainting beneficiary families with other anti-poverty programs of the Mexican government, this hasn’t contributed significantly to the reduction of extreme poverty and therefore this program can’t of itself break the cycle of generational poverty, and other national and international economic and social policies must be adopted.
