PADILLA FUENTES, Geraldo; RODRIGUEZ GARCES, Carlos e ESPINOSA VALENZUELA, Denisse. Territorial Analysis of the Mapuche Electoral Participation in the Constituent Elections. Estudios del Desarrollo Social [online]. 2022, vol.10, n.3 Epub 01-Dez-2022. ISSN 2308-0132.
Given that the Mapuche have been a historically absent group in Chilean politics, in the 2021 elections for constituent representatives, a differentiated electoral roll and reserved seats were established for the first time. The objective of this article is to describe the Mapuche electoral participation in this historical event, from a territorial perspective, against the background of their demands and conflicts with the Chilean State. The results show that Mapuche electoral participation is below expectations, being even lower than that observed in the general population. However, participation increases in concomitance with socio-demographic indices that typify the vulnerability and procrastination of the territories, such as poverty, education, and rurality. The conclusions emphasize the importance of further studies to discuss the findings, as new polls and more disaggregated analyses will allow us to investigate the impact that unresolved demands and inclusion policies have on Mapuche electoral participation.
