ORIZONDO ANSOLA, Rogelio  e  CAIRO GONZALEZ, Vivian. Eclampsia rate present in Santa Clara. Rev Cubana Obstet Ginecol [online]. 2009, vol.35, n.3, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-3062.

OBJECTIVE: to determine eclampsia behavior in the "Mariana Grajales" Gynecology-Obstetrics Hospital during 2007-2008 years. METHODS: we made a descriptive and retrospective study and a review of medical records from all patients with eclampsia. RESULTS: a total of 15 patients had eclampsia among 10 047 labors (1/669). The 66,6 % of them had high blood pressure (HBP), only 46,7% had BP >110 mmHg, 46,7 % had proteinuria, and the 40% had edema, 26,7 % of patients were asymptomatic, 40% had it before delivery, 26,% during intrapartum, and 33,3 % in puerperium period. A patient had it 48 h postpartum. With a diagnosis of pre-eclampsia in 60 % (from them 33,3 % were classified as severe), 13,3 % with chronic high blood pressure, and 26,7 % never had HBP before convulsion. Three convulsioned after administration of magnesium sulfate as the prophylactic treatment. There were neither maternal nor perinatal deaths. There was a retroplacental hematoma in 13,3 % of patients, 33,3 % were low weight newborns, 26,7 % were premature, and 20 % had a Apgar score of > 7 at birth. CONCLUSIONS: the pre-eclampsia incidence is still high in this hospital, although mother complications are not so frequent and perinatal results are not bad. Not all cases may be prevented with administration of magnesium sulfate, but the severe pre-eclampsia is an essential indication.
