TORRES GONZALEZ-CHAVEZ, Mitchell; PINO RODRIGUEZ, Duniel; ZAMORA MONTALVO, Yendry  e  MATOS RODRIGUEZ, Rafael Grabiel. Current considerations on skin neoplasms in the canine species. Rev Salud Anim. [online]. 2020, vol.42, n.2  Epub 01-Ago-2020. ISSN 2224-4700.

Skin neoplasms constitute one third of the tumor processes in the dog. They have their origin in epithelial, mesenchymal, lymphohistiocytic, and melanocytic cells or they can be metastases of neoplasms from other locations. This disease mostly affects animals older than six years and there are certain predisposed breeds such as the Boxer, Scottish Terrier, and Bull Mastiff. Its development depends on the interaction of four elemental pathogenic mechanisms: the ability to repair DNA, eicosanoids and proteinases, immunosuppression, and the mutation and inactivation of the p53 anti-oncogene. The aim of the present study was to carry out an updated review of the situation of canine cancer, its frequency of presentation, the predisposing factors, types of skin neoplasms, and the aspects of early diagnosis, prevention and control. In addition, the main aspects related to the most important canine skin tumors are described.
