JAIME FAGUNDO, Juan Carlos et al. Immunological aspects of the transplant of haematopoietic progenitor cells. Rev Cubana Hematol Inmunol Hemoter [online]. 2006, vol.22, n.3, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-2996.
Patients undergoing transplant of haematopoietic cells experience a prolonged period of immunological dysfunction that may persist for a year or more, with an affectation of cellular and humoral immunity. This makes them have a high risk of infections in the posttransplant period. After the conditioning, there is a loss of memory of the immunity accumulated during the whole life to the exposure of infectious and environmental agents, and vaccines. The treatment of the infections is difficult due to the poor immunitary reponse. One of the tools to limit the risk of infection is the use of vaccines, although their effectiveness may be restricted by the dysfunctional immunity characterizing this period
