BUGARIN, J et al. Evaluation of two Leucaena species, associated to Brachiaria brizantha and Clitoria ternatea in a silvopastoral system from Nayarit, Mexico: II. Biomass production and bromatological composition. Pastos y Forrajes [online]. 2009, vol.32, n.4, pp. 1-1. ISSN 0864-0394.

This study was conducted with the objective of characterizing the biomass production and nutritional quality in a silvopastoral system of the northern coastal plain of the Nayarit state, Mexico. The treatments were: 1) Leucaena leucocephala-B. brizantha (30:70); 2) Leucaena glauca-B. brizantha (30:70); 3) L. leucocephala-B. brizantha- C. ternatea (28:52:20); 4) L. glauca-B. brizantha-C. ternatea (28:52:20); 5) B. brizantha (100). The biomass production was estimated and the following indicators were determined: dry matter, ashes, organic matter, crude protein, hemicellulose and the fractions of acid and neutral detergent fiber. The lowest values regarding biomass production, six months after establishing the system, were for the control (0,78 t/ha), with significant differences. In turn, the combination of the three species contributed the best results (1,64 and 1,69 t/ha for treatments 3 and 4, respectively) and after nine months they tripled the biomass production. There were significant differences in the bromatological composition of all the evaluated combinations. However, all the species showed adequate nutritional qualities and constitute an alternative for the tropical silvopastoral systems in this region.

Palavras-chave : Brachiaria brizantha; Clitoria ternatea; Leucaena spp; silvopastoral systems.
