Background: tracer diseases in no-traumatic surgical acute abdomen are responsible for a great rate of morbidity and mortality in the surgical emergency medical service. Objective: to describe the behaviour of non-traumatic surgical acute abdomen taking into account tracer diseases. Method: a prospective, observational, descriptive cross-section study was conducted in a universe of 1037 patients diagnosed with any of the non-traumatic surgical acute abdomen diseases who were attended at the emergency medical service of the General Surgery Department of the Celia Sánchez Manduley Teaching Provincial Hospital, Manzanillo, Granma, in 2013. Results: acute appendicitis was the most frequent disease in the 57, 28 % of the total of cases. The average age was 29-67 years old. Male sex (58, 24 %), surgical treatment (88, 14 %), and the satisfactory evolution of patients (91, 99 %) predominated. The most frequent complications were hydro-electrolyte and acid/base disorders (28, 35 %), infections of the surgical site (20, 06 %) and paralytic ileus (9, 93 %). Hospitalization stay rate was of 11, 3 days; the mortality was of 4, 09 %; and the re-operation rate was of 2, 03 %.
