Impact of the cariogenic potential in the lunchboxes of kindergarten children at the "Mariano Aguilera" Educational Institution. Rev Ciencias Médicas [online]. 2023, vol.27, suppl.2 Epub 01-Dez-2023. ISSN 1561-3194.
Introduction:
Caries is an oral disease that is responsible for destroying and demineralizing the hard tissues of the teeth by means of cariogenic bacteria.
Objective: to
characterize the cariogenic risk of school children between three and five years of age at the "Mariano Aguilera" Educational Institution.
Methods:
a descriptive, observational, cross-sectional research was carried out to determine the cariogenic potential in children of the "Mario Aguilera" Educational Institution in Santo Domingo, Ecuador. Ecuador. The sample consisted of 40 children who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. To evaluate cariogenic risk, a survey was used to evaluate several dimensions, the survey proposed by Lipari and Andrade was used and descriptive statistics were employed.
Results:
the female sex predominated (55 %) and the age group with the highest incidence was four to five years of age (67,5 %), 50 % of the children went to the dentist frequently, 63 % of them brushed their teeth twice a day, 83 % of the school children had never used dental floss as an adjuvant technique in oral hygiene and all this led to the observation that the population had a high probability of caries incidence.
Conclusions:
The students from three to five years of age of the "Mariano Aguilera" Educational Institution have a high cariogenic risk.
