The teaching-learning process of endocrine surgery of the thyroid and parathyroid glands demands the training of specialists with a high level of performance, supported by a high scientific-technical and ethical-moral qualification. In this regard, in the Provincial Teaching Clinical Surgical Hospital "León Cuervo Rubio" of Pinar del Río, insufficiencies were identified because, from the didactic perspective, the integration of theoretical-practical knowledge to the solution of problems faced by resident doctors in practical activity affected professional performance. Consequently, this article aimed to characterize the didactic conception of the referred process, which, with a flexible, contextualized, and personalized character, fostered new relationships to improve it systematically. The use of methods of the theoretical and empirical levels and the statistical was useful in determining the integrative approach of the essentialities of theoretical-practical knowledge by basing them as an integrating link of the didactic components that structure the conception, whose foundation was made from different areas of knowledge. In this framework, the strategy to implement it constituted the operational element that enhances the self-management of knowledge based on the improvement of professional performance when the relationship historical knowledge-technical scientific development-professional experience interact in favor of diagnosis and treatment pre and post-timely surgery.
