BELLON LEYVA, Susana e CALZADILLA MESA, Xiomara Maria. Effectiveness of the use of propolis in the treatment of aphtous stomatitis.. Rev Cubana Estomatol [online]. 2007, vol.44, n.3, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-297X.
Aphtous stomatitis is one of the most frequent lesions in the oral mucosa and affects almost 20% of the population, although some studies have reported figures up to 60%. This study was intended to evaluate the effectiveness of 5% propolis tinction for the treatment of aphtous stomatitis. A phase II randomized clinical assay was conducted on 2 groups of patients of both sexes aged 12-44 years, which were diagnosed with aphtous stomatitis. The study group was treated with 5% propolis tinction whereas the control group was applied the standard treatment. The achieved results were then compared. It was concluded that a rapid, low cost and easy-to-apply method like the 5% propolis tinction therapy yielded highly satisfactory results in treating aphtous stomatitis. This method also made the rapid return of patients to their daily activities and the improvement of their quality of life possible.
