ISSN 1561-302X.
An explicative, longitudinal and prospective study was conducted to determine the incidence of silent myocardial ischemia in 76 patientes of both sexes aged 30-60. A stratified sampling was applied according to the number of high coronary risk factors accepted by the World Health Organization (WHO). Ergometry and bidemensional echocardiogram were used as non-invasive diagnostic tools. Ergometry proved to be useful in 55.4 % of the patients and echocardiogram in 44.6 %. There were no significant differences between them. The differences found in relation to the behavior of silent myocardial ischemia by age and sex were not remarkable. A greater incidence was observed among those patients with a higher number of high coronary risk factors with an obvious statistical signification. The arrhytmias were the most frequent electrocardiographic basal finding and no predictive diagnostic value of silent myocardial ischemia could be attributed to them
