SARDUY NAPOLES, Miguel. Clinical and sociodemographic characteristics in a group of women with high-grade cervical squamous intraepithelial lesions. Rev Cubana Obstet Ginecol [online]. 2008, vol.34, n.2, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-3062.
OBJECTIVE: to determine the presence of some clinical and sociodemographic factors in a group of women with high-grade cervical intraepithelial lesions. METHODS: A prospective and open study was undertaken in a group of 150 women with the cytological diagnosis of high-grade cervical intaepithelial lesions at the Gynecology Service of The Medical and Surgical Research Centre from 1994 to 2005. They were surveyed to obtain some clinical and sociodemographic data. RESULTS: A total of 108 women were 25-39, accounting for 72 % of the studied group. 44.7 % of these women had early sexual relations. 94.7 % (152 women) initiated their sexual activity before being 20. Most of women (67.3 %) had had 1 or 2 deliveries. Smoking was referred by 85 patients, representing 56.7 % of the total of the sample. CONCLUSIONS: Cervical intraepithelial neoplasias were more frequent in women aged 25-39, a period that covers part of their reproductive stage. The first sexual relations before the age of 18, smoking and multiparity were the most common risk factors in women with high-grade cervical intraepithelial neoplasia.
