A retrospective study of 56 patients with colorectal injuries, who were admitted to "Dr Luis Díaz Soto" Central Military Hospital in the City of Havana from January,1995 to September,1999, was conducted to assess the predictive indexes (Moore´s scale and Flint´s index) for evaluating results. 66% of the injured people aged 15 to 34 years, males prevailed (91.1%). Steel blade weapon wounds were the most frequent causative agents followed by low-speed firearm wounds (30.4%). Related lesions were present in 55.4% of patients, small intestine was the most damaged intrabdominal organ (46.1%). The predominant surgical procedure was exteriorization of injured colonic segment (39.3%) followed by intraperitoneal primary suture (28.6%). The septic complications were the most frequent in 35.7% of patients. Four patients died (7.2%); they showed a penetrating injure index over 36 and a Flint´s index included in the group III. This paper demonstrated the great important of predictive indexes used to determine the severity of injuries and the behavior to be followed.
