Rev Cub Med Mil [online]. 2002, vol.31, n.4, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-3046.

A preclinic pharmacological model of intestinal transit was used aimed at validating the antispasmodic effect of the tincture of Mentha piperita Linn (mint balm) 20 %. Doses of 400, 600 and 800 mg/kg were administered by oral route. A positive control (atropine 1.5 mg/kg), a negative control (distilled water) and hydroalcoholic menstruum 70 % were also estimated. Each group was composed of 8 inbred Balb/c mice. It was found that the 3 evaluated doses reduced the intestinal transit significantly, depending on the dose. The effective average dose calculated was 489.9 mg/kg. The significance level was fixed in one p 0.05.
