The concept of university pertinence is analyzed as from its social dimension with the need to exert a leadership that promotes a better equity. To do so, it is necessary to search for a higher institutional scope that reaches the most diverse social expressions, which demand new answers in the present social dynamics. Based on ethical principles, and on the social reason for its existence, the Cuban university faces the need to increase the levels of equity in the access higher education and to foster its analysis.
