In today's society, the information that is obtained and processed in the various subjects grows rapidly. This context conditions that thousands of university workers have to access and take programs to improve and update their knowledge in order to become competent in the labor field. In this sense, the role of postgraduate education is cardinal, since it favors successful professional performance. This article illustrates how information and communication technologies (ICT) have been inserted into graduate education based on four fundamental trends. Likewise, various definitions of the term virtualization are explained, with emphasis on the criteria of contemporary scholars who have made important contributions to the subject, from the implementation of the educational virtualization process in consideration with the creation of skills and capabilities in the subjects involved.
