The emergency due to the COVID-19 pandemic also caused effects on the unemployment rate worldwide, in Ecuador this rate as of June 2020 was 13.3 %. Faced with this problem, it is necessary to look towards higher education in its social role in the development of the inhabitants but above all in the insertion of its graduates in the labor market, the objective of carrying out a comparative analysis between the statistical information obtained through a survey of 1,450 students in the last year of high school in Santo Domingo in 2019 and information from the National Survey of Employment, Unemployment and Underemployment of September 2020, also information on the academic offer of Higher Education Institutions of the locality, demonstrating the need to update the academic offer to meet the demand of the labor market and the preferences of high school graduates.
